Committee approves Safa and Shiham's Broadcom nominations

The Parliament's Committee on Independent Institutions has approved the nominations of Safa Shafeeq and Shiham Mohamed Waheed for Maldives Broadcasting Commission (Broadcom) membership consideration.

Applications opened for the Broadcasting Commission membership when commission member Amjad Ibrahim's term expired on March 15. President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih nominated four names from among the applicants for Parliament consideration, including Safa and Shiham. The other two nominees were Shan Solih Mohamed and Hussain Amr. The committee approved Safa and Shiham's appointment after conducting interviews.

Meanwhile, commission member Ahmed Gais resigned from Broadcom earlier in January, leaving a vacancy on the commission. Five names were forwarded for Parliament consideration, including Shan Mohamed Solih ad Hussain Amr. Aminath Nuzuha, Mariyam Nareeman Shareed, and Mariyam Muna's names were also forwarded to the Parliament. Among them, the Parliament approved the nominations of Aminath Nuzuha, Hussain Amr, and Nareeman Shareef.
