Tourist arrival numbers cross half a million

The number of tourists arriving in the Maldives thus far this year has crossed half a million.

According to the Tourism Ministry, 555,537 tourists arrived in the Maldives as of April 5. This is an increase of 21.6 percent over the 457,005 tourists during the same period last year.

Statistics show 172,499 tourists arrived in the Maldives in January this year. While 177,915 tourists arrived in February, 173,514 tourists traveled to the Maldives in March. The archipelago received 31,609 tourists from April 1 to 5.

The top source market for Maldives tourism is currently Russia, with 68,102 arrivals. India follows behind with 58,859 tourists, and the UK comes third with 55,093 tourists. The other countries on the top ten source market list are Italy, Germany, the United States, France, China, Switzerland, and Austria.

Tourists currently spend an average of eight days in the Maldives.

There are currently 170 resorts, 896 guesthouses, 153 safari vessels, and 13 hotels in the Maldives. The number of tourist beds in these facilities is 61,406.
