Keyodhoo mosque vandalism suspect remanded in custody

A suspect arrested for vandalizing V. Keyodhoo mosque has been remanded in custody.

A 27-year-old man was arrested from Keyodhoo on April 25 for damaging the island's mosque. When produced before the Keyodhoo Magistrate Court, he was ordered to be remanded in custody pending the outcome of trial.

In October last year, ten copies of the Holy Quran at the Keyodhoo Mosque were torn by an unknown person. Another 20 copies were later torn for a second time.

The Keyodhoo Council said some believe the suspect is involved in tearing the Quran copies at the mosque. However, the council does not make the same allegation, they said, adding that he was arrested for vandalism to the mosque structure.
