Significant progress achieved in mosque construction: Islamic Minister

Islamic Minister Dr. Ahmed Zahir has said the current administration has achieved significant progress in mosque construction.

Speaking at a ceremony held at Addu Meedhoo to kick off the practical work of the island's mosque project, Minister Zahir said President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has brought significant structural development in different areas since coming to power. Under this administration, the construction of 12 mosques has been completed, and 19 mosques are under construction, the minister said.

The minister said the design of the mosques being built now will be different from the previous designs. The mosques are being built on the advice of President Solih and based on his recommendations, he said.

Emphasizing the importance of timely completion, Minister Zahir said the contractors must give high priority to completing the projects within the deadline given by the government. He said that mosque projects are typically awarded to be completed within one year.

Meedhoo's mosque project, accommodating up to 700 people and serving both men and women, was awarded to Nooruddin Investment on June 7. The government has allocated MVR 13.9 million from the PSIP budget to fund the project.
