President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has announced that the salaries of the police and MNDF officers will be increased. The president made the announcement while speaking at a function held to mark the 90th Anniversary of the Police on Saturday night.
The president said the most important step towards strengthening the public administration system is to bring about improvements for public servants. In this regard, the president said the salaries of those working in the education sector were improved last year, while the salaries of lecturers at higher education institutions were increased this March. The salaries of those in the health sector will be increased effective next month, he added.
"As part of the ongoing pay harmonization process, we will hopefully bring about positive changes in the salaries of the police and MNDF officers," he said.
The president disclosed that the Pay Commission is currently studying the salary changes for the police and army.
"When the said pay harmonization is completed, there will be positive changes in the salaries of all government employees," he said.
The president added that the biggest concern for the people is housing constraints. Both the police and the army officers have the same difficulty, especially those who have to work away from their islands and away from their families, he said.
"The government is working to bring about a positive change in the price of the flats being built under the Blue Housing Scheme," he said.
