A man has died after being hit by the propeller of a safari boat.
The incident occurred on Wednesday evening as a safari attempted to berth at R. Inguraidhoo Harbour. The deceased has been identified as former Vice-President of Rasgetheemu Council, Mohamed Ibrahim, who worked as a crew member on the safari.
A person who spoke from Inguraidhoo said a rope entangled in the safari's turbine as it approached the island. The turbine hit Mohamed Ibrahim as he dived into the water in an attempt to untangle the rope, not realizing that the turbine had not been turned off. He was already dead when he was recovered from the sea.
