JP assures Qasim would contest the presidential election

The Jumhooree Party (JP) has confirmed that its leader, Qasim Ibrahim, will be running for the upcoming presidential election as the party's candidate.

Despite doubts among the public about JP's intentions to enter the race due to a lack of campaign activity, the party's Deputy Leader and former Transport Minister, Ameen Ibrahim, stated that Qasim had assured them that he will participate in the election.

"Our leader, our candidate, gave that assurance today. Hon'ble Qasim Ibrahim has made it very clear that he will be in the race. He has said that even if he has face the election alone, he will hopefully be seen in this race," he said.

Ameen mentioned that JP has not yet launched an official presidential campaign, but the party is making preparations for it within the party. He also alleged that those questioning Qasim's candidacy are attempting to discourage people from joining JP or create doubts in their support. Ameen assured the public that Qasim would be competing in the election and expressed confidence that he would emerge victorious with the people's support.

"Do not doubt that Qasim Ibrahim will participate in this election. With God's will, he will come out as our candidate, and with the support and cooperation of the people, he will win this race with a majority lead," he said.

The JP has invited other political parties to join them in a coalition for the election, but no party has made a decision yet. Qasim is also in talks with MDP President Mohamed Nasheed's "Fikuregge Dhirun" faction regarding the election.

The presidential election is scheduled for September 9 this year.
