Maldives Post has been awarded the Universal Postal Union (UPU)'s Gold Award for the world's best Express Mail Service (EMS).
Maldives Post was selected for the Gold Award among 174 countries where EMS services are provided. The company previously received the Bronze Award in 2019 and 2021, making it one of the most successful EMS providers in the world.
The award was presented to Maldives Post at the EMS Cooperative General Assembly held in Bern, Switzerland. The award was received by Maldives Post's Managing Director, Adam Mohamed.
Speaking after the event, MD Adam said Maldives Post would participate in meetings held at the global level and bring about changes in the delivery of postal services in the Maldives.
“Our aim is to provide quality services to the people,” he said, reiterating Maldives Post's commitment to excellence.
Besides the Maldives, the Gold Award winners include Azerbaijan, Myanmar, Oman, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Qatar won the silver award, while no country was selected for the bronze award.
This year's Cooperative General Assembly passed strategic decisions to improve the quality of EMS services. It was also decided that the World Customs Organization-Universal Postal Union Global Conference would be held in Japan in June this year to discuss ways to improve the quality of postal services around the world, and also a Regional EMS Symposium in Indonesia in September.
More than eight million items are shipped from one country to another each week through the EMS network. Important documents, medicines, spare parts, and everyday items are also shipped through EMS.
Maldives Post's EMS service is the most reliable and fastest, and most cost-effective service for sending items abroad. Singapore, UAE, Malaysia, Australia, and Sri Lanka are among the most frequently posted destinations from the Maldives.
