JP to handover presidential ticket on June 9

The Jumhooree Party (JP) is set to confer its presidential ticket to its presidential candidate next month.

The party opened the opportunity for those interested in contesting in the party's presidential primary to submit their applications on March 16. When the deadline passed on June 30, the party's leader, Qasim Ibrahim, was the only applicant, securing the presidential ticket by default.

According to the party, the ticket will be officially handed over at a special rally at Male' Carnival Area on June 9.

Despite being part of the current ruling coalition, the JP has decided to field its own candidate for the presidential election, rejecting President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's invitation to form a coalition. The party has been engaged in discussions with rival parties regarding the formation of a potential coalition.
