The number of tourists visiting the Maldives fell by two percent in the first six days of this month.
According to the Tourism Ministry, 22,918 tourists arrived in the Maldives during the first six days of this month. This is a two percent decline compared to the 23,393 tourists that arrived during the corresponding period last year.
The Maldives saw a similar decline last month, with 120,977 tourists visiting the archipelago against the 125,528 tourists that visited the Maldives in the same period last year. This is a 3.6 percent decline.
Despite the decline in tourist arrivals, the overall number of arrivals has seen a significant increase compared to the previous year. While 832,169 tourists have visited the Maldives thus far this year, the number of arrivals during the same period last year was 725,725, a difference of 14.7 percent.
The current decline in tourist arrivals is believed to be attributed to a decline in the number of Russian tourists visiting the Maldives.
