Food and drink provided to those in custody as per policies: Police

The police have clarified that detainees in their custody are provided with food in accordance with established policies.

The police said this after a man who was arrested on the 15th of this month and claimed in court the following day that he had not been given any food since his arrest.

The man was held at the Galolhu Police Station until he was produced before the court to decide on his remand. It is notable that the Galolhu police station does not have a custodial facility on the premise to hold suspects.

Police said in a statement that they adhere to a policy of providing food and beverages to all individuals held in police custody. Police said no individuals will be detained at the Galolhu police station for more than four hours.
