President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, in his bid for re-election, has made several pledges to the people of Sh. Maroshi.
President Solih is currently on a campaign tour to Shaviyani atoll. During his stop at Maroshi island, he addressed the residents of the islands and acknowledged that the people of Maroshi had always been active with him in his political work since the beginning. He said Maroshi was excluded and isolated by previous governments but assured the residents that such exclusion was now a thing of the past. In this regard, he said Maroshi Island's water and sewerage project was one of the first projects initiated by his government, demonstrating a commitment to improving the island's infrastructure.
The President recalled that during his last visit to Maroshi, the people of Maroshi requested the development of a harbour on the island. The work is now nearing completion, and when completed, the harbour will be the finest and most accessible harbour in the north of Maldives, he said.
During the meeting, the Minister of Islamic Affairs, Dr. Ahmed Zahir, who hails from Maroshi, shared concerns of the islanders regarding the erosion problem faced by the island. He also noted that the people of Maroshi wanted the government to build housing units on the island.
Responding to the minister, the President said 40 hectares of land would be dredged to protect the eroded area of Maroshi and that 50 housing units would be built under the government's housing scheme.
Addressing other essential needs, the President promised to build a modern road in Maroshi, install an ATM service, and convert the health center into a 24-hour facility. He also said that turf will be laid at the island's football stadium.
