Three development projects have been completed and inaugurated in Meemu Kolhufushi.
President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih is currently on a visit to Kolhufushi island. He inaugurated the island's water system, the shore protection project and five classrooms, and a multi-purpose hall constructed in the Meemu Atoll School at a ceremony held at the island today.
The water system and shore protection project was launched on November 28, 2018, costing MVR 300 million for both from the state budget. The school project, which cost MVR 13.3 million from the state budget, was launched on May 25, 2022.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Kolhufushi Council President, Abdul Aleem, said the most significant assistance was provided to the island by President Solih's government. While the current administration is implementing 13 projects in Kolhufushi, three have been completed, with six additional projects nearing completion, he noted. Abdul Aleem further said that the government's efforts in Kolhufushi would undoubtedly translate into overwhelming support for President Solih in the forthcoming presidential election.
Kolhufushi is the second most populous island in Meemu Atoll. The island was the worst hit in the 2004 tsunami disaster.
