Giraavaru Falhu dredging to reach completion by October

The Planning Ministry has announced that the dredging of Giraavaru Falhu is on track for completion by the end of October.

As part of the government's housing initiative, a total of 9,003 land plots have been allocated for 19,639 eligible Male' residents drawn from Hulhumale', Gulhifalhu, and Giraavaru. Among these allocations, 1,351 plots are from Hulhumale, 2,219 from Gulhifalhu, and 5,433 from Giraavaru Falhu. The government has earmarked 26 hectares in Hulhumale, 42 hectares in Gulhifalhu, and 73 hectares in Giraavaru Falhu for this purpose.

During a media tour of Giraavaru Falhu on Saturday, the Planning Ministry's State Minister, Akram Kamaluddin, said the land-cutting process will commence as soon as areas are dredged. He expressed confidence in achieving the completion of dredging by the end of October.

“400 plots of land can be taken from the existing dredged land in Giraavaru Falhu,” Akram said.

Akram further said President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih is committed to handing over the land to its recipients before the end of this term. The government's current goal is to hand over the land before November 5 this year, he said.

The dredging is being managed through a collaboration between the CMC-Boskalis joint venture from the Netherlands.
