President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, seeking re-election, has confirmed his participation in the upcoming presidential debate. The debate, organized by the Maldives National University and State TV Public Service Media, is scheduled for September 1 at 9:00 pm.
Campaign Spokesperson for President Solih, Defense Minister Maria Ahmed Didi, announced during a press conference that the President has accepted the invitation to engage in the debate. While the President generally avoids media-organized debates, he made an exception for the MNU debate due to its academic nature and potential for in-depth policy discussions, she said.
The presidential election is scheduled for September 9. Eight candidates are contesting the election.
