Rivals need five weeks to match campaign momentum: Pres Solih

President Ibrahim Mohamed has expressed unwavering confidence in his presidential election campaign, asserting that rival candidates would take five weeks to catch up with his campaign.

Speaking at a campaign event at Laamu Gan on Monday, President Solih said by the time his rivals catch up to him, the election will have concluded, securing his victory.

"By the time my rivals get their campaigns properly started, the results of the election would have already been announced. They will then be working for the 2028 elections," he said.

The president described his campaign as a "cool" campaign and said there was no need for him to be concerned about what his competitors were doing.

“There is nothing to worry about,” the President said.

Outlining his vision for Laamu Atoll, President Solih acknowledged the delays caused by the pandemic in realizing his plans for urban centers on Gan and Fonadhoo islands. Despite the setbacks, he affirmed his dedication to realizing these objectives.

The President said his goal was to increase Gan's population to 25,000 within a decade, emphasizing that modern facilities and services were pivotal to attracting migration. He pledged to construct 1,000 housing units on Gan within the next year, aiming for a total of 5,000 units by the end of his potential second term.

The president also assured that a tertiary hospital and a cancer treatment hospital are being established in Gan as promised by the government.
