The scheduled presidential debate jointly organized by state media Public Service Media (PSM) and the Maldives National University (MNU) has been canceled.
Originally set for September 1 at 9:00 pm, the debate was called off due to a timing clash with a campaign event planned by the main-ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) after the party requested to reschedule the debate.
In a statement, PSM said rescheduling the debate to accommodate absent candidates would inconvenience other campaigns. The statement also indicated plans to partner with private TV channel Sangu TV for an alternative debate, which is now scheduled for 9:00 pm on Saturday night.
