The PPM-PNC presidential candidate, Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, has pledged to establish a transshipment port in Laamu Gaadhoo if he is elected to office.
Speaking at a campaign rally at Laamu Fonadhoo on Friday night, Dr. Muizzu emphasized the importance of implementing projects in the Laamu region aimed at bolstering the Maldives' economy, with a specific focus on creating a transshipment port equipped with essential services.
“We will make Gaadhoo a location with a transshipment port and bunkering facilities,” Muizzu said.
Muizzu's vision for Laamu Atoll includes dredging a resort between Fonadhoo and Gaadhoo, connecting the three islands through a causeway, implementing a housing project on Fonadhoo, establishing a university, upgrading Gan Hospital to tertiary standards, enhancing Kadhdhoo Airport into an international airport, and constructing an additional airport in Laamu Atoll.
