EC publicizes interim report on changes to constituencies for 20th Parliament

The Election Commission (EC) has released the interim report on the constituencies for next year's parliamentary elections.

The report outlines several key changes and additions to the constituencies for the upcoming 20th Parliament.

According to the report, six new constituencies will be added to the 20th Parliament, increasing the total number of members from 87 to 93. These newly created constituencies are:

- Hulhumale Central Constituency
- Hulhumale North Constituency
- Hithaadhoo Constituency (Hithaadhoo, Maalhos, Dharavandhoo)
- Huraa Constituency (Huraa, Himmafushi, Gulhi)
- Kolamaafushi Constituency (Kolamaafushi, Devvadhoo)
- Feydhoo North Constituency (Feydhu, Maradhoofeydhoo)

With the change in the constituencies of the Parliament, Eydhafushi, Villingili, and Meedhoo constituencies will become single-island constituencies.

According to the report, the names of some constituencies have also changed. While Hulhumale' constituency will be renamed Hulhumale' South Constituency, the Guraidhoo constituency will be renamed Maaafushi Constituency. Meanwhile, Thaa Guraidhoo constituency will be renamed Guraidhoo Constituency and Feydhoo Constituency as Feydhoo South Constituency.

While EC has opened the report for public review and complaints, the deadline for submitting complaints to the interim report is 3:00 pm on October 19.
