Ex-pres Yameen calls for corruption investigations

Former President Abdullah Yameen, currently serving an 11-year sentence for bribery and money laundering, has stated that no one in the current government will escape investigation if corruption cases are pursued. Yameen made the remark while addressing his supporters from his residence, H. Dhoovehi, while under home arrest.

Speaking to his supporters, Yameen said the incoming government of President-Elect Dr. Mohamed Muizzu must have the courage to investigate corruption within the current government. He further expressed his elation at the current government's facing defeat in the presidential election and said the current government and its close ally, India, were confident of a decisive victory in the election due to him being barred from contesting the election. He also strongly criticized the current government, accusing it of "destroying" the nation.

Yameen was transferred to home arrest following a request made by the President-Elect to President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih after his victory in the election.
