President-elect Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has decided to conduct special audits to identify the condition of some government agencies and government-owned companies.
Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Dr. Muizzu's Spokesperson, Mohamed Firzul Abdullah Khaleel, said interim committees had already undertaken visits to state agencies and companies, gathering essential information regarding their current conditions. The preliminary findings have exposed the severe challenges plaguing several of these entities, compelling Dr. Muizzu to order special audits to delve deeper into the issues, he said.
"I would like to point out that the interim committees are not auditing a ministry, institution, or company. They are taking a situational snapshot. Of the entity's current situation, of its financial situations, those relating to finance. The administrative services and staffing situations are also being identified in the form of numbers and also in the form of information," Firzul said.
Firzul said the special audit of agencies and companies would be conducted through the Auditor General's Office. Details of these audits will be announced later.
Firzul had earlier said that some government-owned companies would not be able to operate for the next two months without additional funding from the state budget. He attributed this critical situation to the government's delay in compensating companies for their services.
Firzul said Dr. Muizzu's government would prioritize resolving the issues faced by the companies. He emphasized that comprehensive action would be taken following careful consideration and planning.
