The Maldives Food and Drug Authority (MFDA) has banned the sale of an imported medicine after it was found to contain two dangerous chemicals. The banned medicine is Emidone Domperidone Oral Suspension, a medicine used for treating dizziness and vomiting.
According to MFDA, the drug, manufactured by Pakistan's Pharmix Laboratories, contains diethylene glycol and ethylene glycol. The MFDA has, therefore, banned the import, sale, and use of any batch of the drug for any purpose. MFDA has urged the immediate disposal of any existing stock of the banned medicine in accordance with prescribed procedures.
The MFDA had also banned the sale and use of another drug manufactured by Pharmix Laboratories earlier this month.
