Maldives attracts over 200,000 Russian tourists

The Maldives has welcomed more than 200,000 tourists from Russia thus far this year.

According to data from the Tourism Ministry, the total number of Russian visitors surpassed 200,200 as of the 18th of this month.

While the Maldives has recorded a total of 1.79 million tourists so far this year, this is a substantial 12.6 percent increase compared to the same period last year when 1.59 million visitors were registered.

This year, the Maldives has witnessed the highest arrival numbers in its history. While the tourism-dependent archipelago received 1,702,831 tourists arrived in 2019 pre-COVID-19, the arrival number was 555,494 in 2020. In 2021, 1.2 million tourists arrived in the Maldives and 1.6 million in 2022.

According to the statistics by the Tourism Ministry, there are 1,135 tourism facilities currently in the Maldives. These include 175 resorts, 802 guesthouses, 144 safaris, and 14 hotels.
