The UK has overtaken Russia as the second-largest tourism market in the Maldives.
According to figures released by the Tourism Ministry, the Maldives received 69,031 tourists from the UK as of Tuesday. This accounts for ten percent of the total arrivals, which stood at 688,611.
China is presently the largest tourist market in the Maldives, with 73,848 tourists so far this year. Russia, formerly in second place, has now slipped to third, with 68,342 arrivals.
Following Russia are Italy, boasting 63,020 tourists, and Germany, with 54,311 visitors. India, the top tourism market in the previous year, currently ranks sixth. France, USA, Switzerland, and Poland are also among the top ten tourism markets.
According to the Tourism Ministry, the number of tourists visiting the Maldives has increased by 14.6 percent compared to the same period last year.
