India reclaims position as leading source of tourists

India has reclaimed its position as the leading source of tourists to the Maldives, surpassing Russia.

According to the Tourism Ministry, 205,278 tourists have arrived in the Maldives from India so far this year. This is 11.2 percent of the total tourist arrivals this year.

India was the market leader in June this year, overtaking Russia. However, in July, Russia regained the top spot, which India has now reclaimed. The Maldives has received 203,539 tourists so far this year from Russia.

According to the Tourism Ministry, 1.83 million tourists have visited the Maldives so far this year. This is an increase of 12.3 percent compared to 1.63 million tourists during the same period last year.

There are 1,135 tourism facilities currently in the Maldives. These include 175 resorts, 802 guesthouses, 144 safaris, and 14 hotels.
