Sea ambulance service has been officially launched between Male' and Villimale.
The service agreement was signed between the Health Ministry and Dharumavantha Hospital at a handover ceremony held today. The agreement was signed on behalf of the ministry by Health Minister Dr. Abdulla Khaleel while Dharumavantha Hospital was represented by the hospital's CEO, Ibrahim Abdul Razzaq Haleem. Transport Minister Mohamed Ameen handed over the symbolic keys of the speedboat designated for the sea ambulance service to CEO Razzaq.
According to Razzaq, the sea ambulance will be stationed at Villimale harbor and will be jointly maintained by Villimale Hospital and the state-owned Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH).
Speaking at the ceremony, Health Minister Dr. Khaleel said the residents of Villimale have always voiced concern over the challenges they face in transporting patients from Villimale to Male', and have always requested to address the issue. He emphasized that the newly acquired sea ambulance is larger and more advanced than those currently in use across the Maldives.
"If additional medical equipment is needed to enhance the service, we will address it once identified. Our objective is to enhance the quality of services offered to the residents of Villimale," the minister said.
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has committed to improving services at Villimale Hospital. Aligning with this commitment, the government is now preparing to develop a 100-bed tertiary hospital in Villimale.
