China has emerged as the third-largest tourism market in the Maldives, surpassing the United Kingdom.
According to statistics, a total of 16,529 Chinese tourists visited the Maldives in the first four weeks of the year. This accounts for 9.5 percent of the total 174,400 tourists who visited the country thus far this year.
Meanwhile, the total number of tourists visiting the Maldives has increased by 11.9 percent compared to the same period last year. With 18,651 tourists, Russia is the leading source market at this time, while Italy followed behind with 18,111 tourists.
Behind China is the UK in the fourth position with 14,588 tourists, followed by India with 13,989 tourists and Germany with 10,652. The United States contributed 6,299 tourists, while France, Poland, and Switzerland sent 6,168, 5,109, and 3,330 tourists respectively.
