The Island Aviation Service (IAS) has filed a lawsuit seeking to collect MVR 5.6 million owed to the national airline Maldivian by the main opposition, the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP).
MDP is indebted to the airline for MVR 5,629,861 for charter flights organized for the party during the campaign for the second round of the 2023 presidential election. These flights were reserved for MDP's use with the understanding that payment should be settled within 48 hours of service provision. Despite this agreement, the outstanding balance remains unsettled as of now.
An IAS official told AVAS that a case was filed in the Civil Court on Monday to recover the overdue amount. The decision to take legal action came after extending multiple opportunities to the MDP for payment.
"When we asked for payment, the party requested clarification on certain information. We provided the necessary clarification, and despite granting ample time for settlement, we have now resorted to legal action as a last option," he said.
