Gov't pledges require enactment of over 200 laws, says pres

The government needs to enact more than 200 laws to fulfill its pledges to the people, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has said.

At a campaign rally held at the Hiyaa Flat area in Hulhumale' Phase II last night, President Dr. Muizzu said more than 200 laws have to be passed including amendments to existing laws. This can only be achieved if the government secures a majority in the upcoming parliamentary elections, he said.

The president emphasized that these include important bills such as the Land Bill and Housing Bill, and stressed the need to elect MPs who are aligned with the government's vision for progress.

“These goals cannot be achieved unless like-minded people are elected to the parliament,” Dr. Muizzu said.

President Dr. Muizzu acknowledged that the opposing Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) holds a parliament majority, which hinders progress through the parliament due to a lack of cooperation. He urged the citizens to consider the government's legislative agenda when casting their votes in the upcoming elections.
