Hassan Shiyam (VB Hassan) has decided to support the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) candidate for the Central Henveiiry constituency in the upcoming parliamentary elections.
Set to contest the same seat in the upcoming parliamentary election, Hassan was campaigning in full gear when the Supreme Court ruled that he could not contest the election. The development stemmed from a case filed at the Supreme Court by an individual regarding a proven debt in Hassan's name. The case centered on Hassan's failure to adhere to a court judgment regarding the debt, as detailed in Article 73(c) of the Constitution, which stipulates that individuals with proven debts who do not follow court orders cannot contest parliamentary elections.
In light of the disqualification, Shiyam has put his support behind the opposing MDP's Ibrahim 'Ibu' Jaleel. Confirming his stance on the matter, Shiyam shared his decision in a post on X.
Four candidates are currently contesting the Central Henveiru constituency.
