Voting commences for Maldives' parliamentary election

Voting for the parliamentary elections has commenced in the Maldives.

Polling started at 8:00 am today in most voting stations and will continue until 5:30 pm. The Election Commission (EC) has said that the voting time will not be extended.

A total of 368 candidates are vying for seats in 93 constituencies in the highly anticipated election, with 284,663 individuals eligible to vote in the election. A total of 287,462 ballot papers have been printed for the polls.

Voting is also being held in three foreign countries.

Sri Lanka (Colombo): 8:30 am to 6:00 pm
Malaysia (Kuala Lumpur): 11:00 am to 6:30 pm
