Education Ministry receives over 2,000 applications for first grade admission in Male' schools

The Education Ministry has received over 2,000 applications for admission to first grade in Male' City schools.

The ministry initiated the application process on April 13.

An Education Ministry official said that 2,290 applications have been received thus far for first-grade admissions, along with 1,450 applications for other grade levels and 790 transfer requests from schools outside Male' to those within the city.

“We are working to process all the forms we receive by the 13th of this month,” the official said.

The Education Ministry has decided to allow children who turned six but were under the age of seven by December 31 last year to enroll in first grade.

Until 2021, the academic year in the Maldives started in January every year. However, the former government decided to commence the academic year from August from then onwards. After President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu assumed office, the government decided to revert to the January start date for the academic year. This transition, slated for completion by 2026, will see this year's academic year commence in May as part of a phased adjustment process.
