The Education Ministry has advised schools against creating Viber groups for individual classes to communicate about school matters.
A circular issued by the Education Ministry to local schools on Tuesday recommended establishing a community group for the entire school or each grade, stating that this approach aims to prevent unnecessary messaging in Viber groups. The ministry suggested that the community groups be used as digital notice boards.
The circular also set specific times for messaging in the community groups, instructing that no messages should be sent two hours after the end of the school session.
The circular further urged schools to create habits that encourage students to take responsibility for their own learning, rather than relying on Viber groups to inform parents directly.
Some parents and teachers have voiced concerns about the current practice of having class-specific Viber groups, which often become overly active with discussions and debates.
