Authorities seize drugs worth MVR 104 mln

Over 19 kg of drugs have been seized thus far this year.

Speaking to reporters at a news conference on Sunday, Chief Superintendent of Police Mohamed Nafiz said this amount was seized in 56 operations. The street value of the seized drugs is estimated to be MVR 104 million.

Nafiz shared some statistics of the operation so far this year. He said 260 locals and 16 foreigners have been arrested in drug operations this year along with five drug cartels. Thirteen vehicles were searched during these operations. A total of 257 drug cases have been investigated thus far this year and 95 cases have been referred to the Prosecutor General's Office.

At the press conference, Homeland Security Minister Ali Ihsan told reporters that the efforts being made by the relevant agencies to solve the drug problems plaguing the Maldives are yielding fruitful results.
