The L. Fonadhoo Council has decided to terminate its Secretary General, Mohamed Faaiq, citing his failure to fulfill responsibilities and attend important meetings.
According to the Decentralization Act, only the Civil Service Commission (CSC) can remove a council's Secretary General. Therefore, the Fonadhoo Council has now initiated the removal process through the CSC.
Despite the council's allegations, Faaiq claims his removal is politically motivated. He stated that his dismissal stems from not supporting Abdul Raheem Abdulla (Adhurey), the government candidate for the constituency, in the recent parliamentary election. He denied the allegations of neglecting his duties.
"This is a politically motivated decision. I am a person whose name is on the MDP register. All five members of the council are PNC members. This is a political move. This was orchestrated while I was on leave," Faaiq stated.
The ruling PNC holds a majority in the Fonadhoo Council.
