India's External Affairs Minister, Subrahmanyam Jaishankar has said projects in the Maldives supported by India are progressing well.
Speaking at the annual CII Annual Business Summit on India's economic outlook, Jaishankar acknowledged the political challenges between the two countries but expressed optimism about ongoing efforts. He mentioned that recent discussions during the official visit of Maldives Foreign Minister Moosa Zameer to India suggest continued constructive collaboration in the days ahead.
India and the Maldives enjoyed strong relations during the administration of former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih. However, ties weakened significantly after President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu assumed office. Relations between Maldives and India deteriorated when the current Maldivian government ordered the withdrawal of all Indian military personnel stationed in the country. Following their withdrawal, an equal number of Indian civilians arrived in the Maldives to replace the military staff.
The relationship between India and Maldives appears to be improving through ongoing diplomatic talks.
