Rule-breaking foreign workers detained in local market operation

A large number of foreigners working illegally at local market stalls and other markets in Male’ City have been identified and handed over to Maldives Immigration.

A total of 50 foreign workers were detained in an operation conducted jointly by Maldives Police Service and Immigration on Saturday.

The market area in Male’ City is known for its high activity and large number of foreign workers. Although many foreigners work at market stalls, regulations prohibit them from working as cashiers.

This operation follows a similar initiative in May, where female immigration officers targeted illegal female foreigners. Authorities have also begun efforts to update the register of unregistered foreigners in the Maldives.
