Two Bangladeshi men have been arrested for illegally selling dollars near a Bank of Maldives ATM in Maafannu ward of Male’ City.
According to Maldives Immigration, the two men were arrested in an operation conducted with the assistance of police on Wednesday. Both individuals are undocumented foreigners living in the Maldives.
The two men have been taken into immigration custody for questioning. Immigration has released a photograph showing a large amount of money in their possession at the time of arrest.
Immigration conducted a similar operation on March 9, during which several foreigners were arrested and deported for illegal sale of US dollars. Immigration has released the names of six people arrested at the time, along with the names of the two individuals arrested last night.
