Maldives and Australia sign agreement for 20-Year National Development Plan

The Governments of Maldives and Australia have signed an agreement to provide technical guidance and assistance in the formulation of the Maldives’ 20-year National Development Plan.

The agreement was signed by Housing Minister Dr. Ali Haidhar Ahmed at a ceremony held at the Housing Ministry on Thursday. Australian Ambassador to the Maldives David Jessup signed the agreement on behalf of the Australian Government.

Under the agreement, the Australian Government will contribute A$900,000 to support the project under the UNDP Integrated Governance Project.

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu first announced the plan to formulate the 20-year Master Plan in September this year. The masterplan will be developed by taking into account the opinions of all island councils, political parties, and the public, in alignment with President’s presidential pledge.

The President said he would hold comprehensive discussions on the plan in all islands and with all concerned associations, sports communities, political parties and various experts in the country.
