Legal action to be taken against uncooperative drug treatment participants

The National Drug Agency (NDA) has announced that legal action will be taken against individuals who have been ordered by the court to undergo drug treatment but fail to cooperate with the treatment process.

The NDA said it held a recent meeting with the Drug Court to discuss strengthening the drug rehabilitation system. They discussed seeking the cooperation of those mandated to treatment and taking legal action against those who do not cooperate as required by their sentence. The NDA said this step would further strengthen the drug treatment system and benefit those receiving treatment.

The government has decided to increase the budget of MVR 117 million allocated this year to strengthen the rehabilitation system by an additional MVR 30 million. These programs are fully funded and organized by the government.

The meeting also discussed improving collaboration between the Drug Court and the NDA to further strengthen the drug rehabilitation system.
