National Bureau of Statistics have revealed that 1878 minors are currently employed, out of which, 622 are out of the school system.
Statistics published in connection to the Children's Day, show that 1878 minors are employed, which accounts for 1.20 percent of the employed. The largest number of employed minors are from HA. Atoll, with 0.767 percent of working population are minors. HDh Aoll comes in second with 0.702 percent.
Most of the minors are employed in business sector, with 30.7 percent of minors employed in the sector. Fisheries and Agriculture sector employed 19.2 percent of minors, with educational sector on third.
The statistics show that a total of 622 minors do not attend school. Out of this, 254 minors are in the primary school age group, the rest 368 are from the secondary school age group. Majority of minors not attending schools are male.
Literacy rates, especially for Dhivehi, are high. 96.1 percent of minors above the age of ten are fully literate. The percentage dips to 94.6 percent for boys.
