Ninety percent of the work of the Laamu Link, the major road linking L. Fonadhoo and L. Gan, is now completed.
Housing Ministry said that based on the current work speed, the Link will be completed by July, noting the remaining work was proceeding at a rapid speed.
The Link will connects Fonadhoo, airport based Kahdhoo, the industrial island Maandhoo and the largest island Gan. The entire road measures 16 km. While 90 percent of the link has been completed, the project was scheduled to be completed in two years. The Ministry added the Link will be open to public from August onward.
The link is a Chinese Government funded project, amounting to MVR 171.7 million. The agreement for the project was signed on November 2014 and the project began on December 15, 2014.
The Laamu Link was designed by CCCC Highway, the same contractor of the Male' Hulhule' Bridge. The Link is divided by a barrier, with traffic flowing on two sides and with higher safety standards.
