Drugs from 74 cases destroyed

Maldives Police Service (MPS) today had destroyed a huge cache of drugs recovered from 74 cases reviewed in 2008.

The drugs were destroyed in Dhoonidhoo in the presence of the three member special committee, which was formed after the amendment to the Drug Act.

Today, 623 rubber packets, 224 cellophanes, six pipes, four foils, 16 syringes and 47 other items, filled with drugs were destroyed. Human bones were also destroyed in this operation. A total of 54.44 grams of cannabis were also destroyed.

Police said the drugs were part of the stash recovered in 2008, which had not been part of cases that were not processed for prosecution. Police said the drugs were destroyed by using special machinery.
