Police leaves Himandhoo with minor

A team from Maldives Police Service (MPS) had left the island of Himandhoo, after implementing a court order issued by Family Court on the Police. Family Court had ordered the Police to retrieve a two-year old child held in the island illegally by the father against Court orders.

Police said they had taken the child under state custody as well as the father. In addition to the Police, a team from Gender Ministry had also been active in Himandhoo.

This is the second time the Police had arrived on the island to implement the Court order. However, they had been unable to implement the Court order the first time around.

Police previously said Family Court had ordered the father to return the child to the mother within seven day on April 14. However, the father had failed to return the child within the given period and as such the Police were ordered to implement the order.

Police said if any person had refused to implement the court order then they will be mandated to act in implementing the order.
