Police flats construction begins, to be finished by 2017

The construction of 300 housing units in Hulhumale' for Police officers has begun after a lengthy hiatus to the project. The project is to be completed by 2017.

The Blues Project was initially started in 2013 assigned to Noomadi Investments. However, the construction was halted due to various reasons after the foundation was laid. Police Cooperative Society (POLCO) had previously announced for prospective partners to develop and carry out the project.

The project is now carried out by a Thai developer, Island Expert. The project was assigned to the developer in May for MVR 628.2 million, as confirmed by the developer's Facebook page. The information on the page says the first sheet of the building had been laid, with the second sheet to be laid soon. The developer had said that the project will be finished by October 2017.

When the flats were initially handed over to Noomadi, the case was filed in ACC as it had elements of corruption in the transaction. Additionally many Police officers who had been chosen for the flats had raised concerns as the rent amount was being deducted from their salaries every month.

POLCO had refused to issue a comment over the issue.
