Parliament staffer arrested over human trafficking case

A staffer at the Parliament has been arrested over a human trafficking case.

Police Media official said a 49 year old male had been arrested on June 23 in connection to a human trafficking case and that Criminal Court had set 15 days as remand for the individual.

Compared to other countries, the issue of human trafficking is largely minimal. Human trafficking is the trade of humans, most commonly for the purpose of sexual slavery, forced labor, or commercial sexual exploitation for the trafficker or others.

Human trafficking will earn the guilty party a jail term of between 10 to 15 years in the Maldives.
