Former President and PPM President Maumoon Abdul Qayyoom's son Dhiggaru MP Faris Maumoon has defended his stance on voting against the Party whip line.
Following Faris' decision to vote against the Party whip line on the amendment to the Tourism Act, PPM PG Leader Ahmed Nihan Hussain Manik had submitted the issue to the Party's Ethics Committee. In response to this, PPM President Maumoon had slammed the move, stating that this was not the first time the MPs had failed to follow the three line whip.
In a tweet posted today, MP Faris said his vote was "in accordance with the letter and the spirit of the PPM Constitution", adding that he was prepared to justify his actions.
In a letter sent to MP Nihan, President Maumoon said that MP Faris had adhered to the instructions issued by Maumoon in his capacity as Party leader and therefore is not an issue that warranted a review from the Ethics Committee.
Following the vote on the issue, infighting has erupted between members of the Party.
