Renato Sanches has been named SOCAR Young Player of the Tournament at UEFA EURO 2016.
Even though he started off on the bench during the first four matches, he played an important role in Portugal winning UEFA EURO 2016 championship.
While the award requires players to be born on/after January, 1994 - UEFA technical observers chose Sanches as he has shown a notable performance for his team, also scoring a goal in the quarter finals against Poland.
There have been times where opponents of Renato Sanches claim he is older than his birth certificate states, basing their judgement on the gap between his birth and its registration. His parents were married for a short period after his birth (18 August 1997), and his father left to France - Sanches' birth registration had to wait until his father returned in 2002.
German club, Bayern Munich has signed a five-year contract with Sanches for the upcoming season. With this transfer, he has become the most expensive Portuguese player to leave the domestic league.
