Maldivian tourism is the most resilient: Saeed

Economic Minister Mohamed Saeed has stated that the tourism practiced in the Maldives is one of the most resilient and adaptable models of tourism practiced in the world.

Speaking in the opening of the Vacations Expo, in National Art Gallery, Minister Saeed said that tourism industry in the country were quick to adapt to the changing global trends.

“The travel sector is the quickest to adapt. This is not an incorrect statement. Maldives’ unique selling points of sun, sand and sea had a very humble start,” he said.

Minister Saeed said it was after this tourism sector companies began to explore the sea and due to this the country has become a destination for diving and sea sports.

“Then Maldives approached wellness. Went to the peak in the sector. Understood that marrying international brands was the way forward. Nearly all luxury brands are here in the Maldives,” Saeed said.

“After that we explored, expanded to guesthouse and city hotels and set an example,”

Minister Saeed said that the Government had invested to support the sector.

“Government is working to elevate this success to a new level. An example of this is the Ibrahim Nasir International Airport,” Saeed added.
