Kaani Hotels, one of the biggest guesthouses in Maafushi, has revealed that the company was tying up with Biodiversity Education and Awareness (BEAM) to clean the island of plastic bottles.
Kaani Hotels Chairman Abdullah Nasheed said the initiative was part of their efforts to protect and conserve the environment.
"Our guests complain when they see empty bottles throw away. We discard a lot of bottles. So we're doing this to protect the environment," Nasheed said.
BEAM Founding Member Shaaheenaa Ali and Kaani Hotels announced the partnership in the ongoing Vacations Expo. Nasheed said the collected plastic bottles from the island will be shipped to Male'.
BEAM is an environment protection and awareness NGO. The NGO had shipped five million plastic bottles, collected form various parts of Maldives, to Adidas. Adidas manufactured a boot from the shipped plastic.
Kaani Hotels runs Kaani Beach Hotels, Kaani Villa and Spa and Kaani Lodge and operate a safari named Kaani Princess.
